Match preview: Walsall FC vs Lincoln City
Lincoln will go into this FA Cup 1st Round replay full of confidence, following a fine run of form which has seen them unbeaten in eight games in all competitions. They will aim to extend that run against Walsall at the Bescot Stadium tonight.
Having been denied victory thanks to a late George Bowerman strike when these sides met last Saturday at the 12th Imp Sincil Bank Stadium, Lincoln have gone on to record back-to-back league victories against Braintree Town and Barrow.
Those results mean The Imps have not tasted defeat since October 6th and, more importantly, has lifted them eight places and five point from the drop zone. Striker Jamie Taylor, Conference Player of the Month for October, has been in the form of his life, and will be looking for a repeat of his stunning goal that almost won the tie for Lincoln last time round.
In contrast to Lincoln, League One side Walsall have not won in ten, last recording victory at the end of September against Bournemouth. Since their narrow escape against The Imps, Walsall have suffered consecutive home defeats to Scunthorpe and Swindon, shipping six goals in the process.
Their poor run of form has seen them slide down the table, and they now sit just just five places from the relegation zone, with just a three point cushion. They will also have to make do without Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg, who misses the tie because of international duty.
44 league places separate Walsall from Lincoln. However, the form guide, as well as Lincoln’s dominance last time the sides met, suggests The Imps have every chance of causing an upset and earning a lucrative spot in the second round, where they would face Mansfield or Slough Town.
Kick off: Tuesday 13th November, 19:45.
