A BBBG guide to… Futsal
On Wednesday 11th November Lincoln’s very own futsal teams will be squaring off against Loughborough university. Here at BBBG sport we will be following the match and bringing you all the highlights. But first, here are a few things you might need to know about futsal.
1. Each team is made up of five players; four in the outfield and one goal keeper.
2. Substitutes can change at any point, even during play, andas many times as they wish.
3. Like 5-a-side football, there is no offsides; so defenders beware.
4. The goal keeper cannot kick the ball, if it goes out for a goal kick, the keeper must throw the ball. This is called a goal clearance.
5. If the ball goes outside the diameters of the pitch it is then either a kick-in (similar to a throw-in), a corner or a goal clearance
6. Futsal is played with a smaller, denser ball. This ensures it doesn’t bounce as much or spend as much time in the air.
7. It is very big in places such as south america, some of todays big named stars spent their childhood perfecting the game. Ronaldinho is a testament to this.
8. Each match consists of two 20 minute halves, with a maximum of a 15 minute break in-between.
9. Freekicks can be given for reckless and dangerous play.
10. If a foul is committed in the keepers area, a penalty is given which is taken on the edge of the area.
